Sometimes words fall into place
I am a human male, roughly six foot two, living, working, and playing in Portland, Oregon.
I write software for a living, sing and play guitar, write books and essays, and try to spend as much time as possible exploring the world.
Most of my days are spent writing cutting edge web applications with Copious, an impressively talented local creative agency. My academic research, though, is in artificial intelligence and computational linguistics. The common drive here is a passion for making computers work with people rather than the other way around. I'm open to freelancing opportunities, but am not interested in new full-time employment.
Artistically, I'm most interested in asemic expression—those messages whose meaning is in their interpretation. This comes out in my photography and recordings, and features prominently in a tool I released to help people communicate despite government censorship.
Much of my inspiration for software, art, music, and writing comes from my friendships, travel and life experiences. All three of these substantially affect the way we think and communicate, and I'm grateful to have had the chance to spend time in a wide variety of environments.
